Turn Holiday Downtime into Business Uptime

As the year winds down, many businesses enter a slower period. But there’s an upside: when there’s less work to be done, it’s the perfect opportunity to tackle those tasks that fall into our I’ll get to that eventually basket. Use this quieter period to sharpen your focus and set yourself up for a stronger start to 2026.

1. Refresh and create new resources

When was the last time you reviewed your collateral?  From how-to guides and case studies to brochures, it might have been months or even years since you had a proper read through of your collateral. Inconsistencies between older and more recently published resources, outdated information or copy that’s no longer relevant or accurate can be given a new lease of life. You may notice gaps in your content, which can help you identify other areas or topics to cover, particularly in your blogs and client materials.

2. Keep your website fresh and relevant

Your website copy is not meant to last forever. It’s often the first impression visitors have of your business. Does it still reflect who your business is today?   Inconsistent messaging, out-of-date content and broken links can undermine your credibility. How consistent is your brand voice across the site? Are your pages easy to navigate? Updating content also signals to search engines that your site is active, and that’s going to help your visibility and rankings. Refresh your visuals, add new insights and give your website an online overhaul.

3. Research and enter business awards

With a new year approaching, why not start looking into the business awards you could enter in 2026?  Recognition as a winner – or even a finalist – brings acclaim, boosts your profile and improves staff morale. It’s a great PR opportunity that can be included across all types of assets, from social media posts to email signatures, showcasing your brand’s reputation.   Use this quieter period to get organised. Which awards do you want to enter? (See our Award Finder.) What are the entry requirements? Will you have time to manage this process, or could you use help from an award writer? As entry deadlines approach, you’ll be glad to have answered these questions now, ensuring you’re ready when entries open.   If you are looking for extra help with proofreading, copy editing, copywriting, blog writing, capability statements, or award writing, our team at Proof Communications is here to support you.   Don’t let the quiet season slip by … give your collateral a holiday spring clean.
