Proofreader and Editor

Ted is a highly experienced editor, proofreader and indexer. He is experienced in all levels of editing: structural, copyediting and proofreading, as well as indexing.

He has over 20 years of experience as an editor in both the public and private sectors.

He has been associated with Proof Communications since 2022, during which time he has worked on a wide variety of corporate, government and private sector documents – encompassing annual reports, corporate and strategic plans, technical reports, catalogues and promotional material.

Ted is an accredited editor with the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) and is a longstanding member of IPEd’s Accreditation Board. He is an Honorary Life Member of both IPEd and the Canberra Society of Editors, and was the recipient of the 2021 Janet Mackenzie Medal for services to the profession of editing.

He has a high level of skill in English grammar, style and usage. His particular strength is in understanding readers’ needs and working collaboratively with authors to help them look at what they write from their readers’ perspective, and to make sure their writing is clear, concise, comprehensive, correct, consistent, courteous, and fit for purpose.

Technical skills include using Microsoft Office products, particularly Word and Excel, writing and designing for accessibility, forms development using Adobe Acrobat, image editing using Adobe Photoshop, document design and layout using InDesign.

Ted is also a very active volunteer for community organisations. Currently, he is a longstanding telephone support volunteer for Family Drug Support; is the administrator of the Combined Area Theatre Awards, which provide recognition for the enormous contribution made by community theatre groups to the artistic life of Australia, in particular in Canberra and south-eastern New South Wales; and is a member of (and currently president of) The Llewellyn Choir.
