Lisa Nelson
Lisa Nelson is a writer and communications professional with more than 20 years of experience shaping stories that resonate. Her career began in journalism, where she learned the value of accuracy, persistence and meeting a deadline – no matter what! These skills, as well as strong researching, interviewing and storytelling abilities, inform her work today, whether she is writing award-winning business award submissions, feature articles or copywriting content designed to engage.
Lisa holds a degree in Professional Writing and Publishing from Curtin University, awarded with Distinction, and has qualifications in both business and marketing. This combination gives her the strategic and commercial lens to produce writing that not only sounds good but also works. She understands how to inform, persuade and entertain various audiences while aligning communication goals with business objectives, and brings this insight to every project she takes on for Proof Communications.
Over the years, Lisa’s work has spanned traditional newspaper and magazine publishing and digital communications for business. This has seen her write everything from news stories, media releases, short- and long-form feature articles, advertorials, business profiles, social media posts, newsletters, marketing reports, marketing communications plans, website copywriting, blogs and more. At its core, Lisa believes good writing is about storytelling and connection. Connecting information and people, brands and audiences, stories and meaning, ideas and action.
No matter the writing required, Lisa takes pride in creating work that is impactful. Her goal is always the same: to craft communications that are clear, compelling and relevant. She is known for being detail-focused, organised and driven to produce high-quality results – traits that come naturally to her Type A personality. As such, Lisa approaches every piece of work with professionalism and a commitment to getting it right – not just for the client, but for the standards that she sets for herself.
Outside of work, Lisa is happiest when outdoors and tackling physical challenges. She is nearing the milestone of 500 parkruns (she says to look it up if you haven’t yet done one, it will change your life), and her pipe dream is to climb Mt Everest. Hiking mountains is her passion; it gives her space to think and reset, while running keeps her grounded and energised. She sees both pursuits as a counterbalance to a profession that often involves sitting for hours on end and thinking deeply. They also command the same discipline and persistence that she brings to her work.
